  • Armory Launches Continuous Deployment-as-a-Service Product

Service allows developers to focus on building code rather than deploying it

San Mateo, CA, June 16, 2022 – Armory, the continuous deployment (CD) company empowering development teams to easily, reliably, safely and continuously deploy software at any scale, has announced general availability of Armory Continuous Deployment-as-a-Service. The product delivers declarative deployments across multiple environments that support advanced progressive strategies, allowing developers to focus on building great code rather than deploying it, enhancing their customers’ experience and avoiding outages.

“Our goal is to give companies a solution that’s simple to use but will grow with them as complexity increases,” said Jim Douglas, Armory president and CEO. “The new product enables development teams to confidently deploy their software every time without worrying about reliability and security.”

Operational downtime can result in hundreds of thousands of lost revenue for many companies. Armory Continuous Deployment-as-a-Service prevents this type of loss, both as a standalone product for cloud-first companies and as an extension of a leading Continuous Delivery (CD) solution — Spinnaker™. Armory Continuous Deployment-as-a-Service provides easy-to-use, environment-specific controls and advanced deployment strategies such as blue/green and canary to specify how much traffic is exposed to new changes and when to automatically roll back if needed.

This enables development teams to automatically and continuously verify a service is healthy before routing all traffic to the new version, limiting risk exposure, avoiding outages and protecting the customer experience.

Upwave, a marketing analytics company, has embraced Armory’s new product. Previously, Upwave leaders said CD solutions were too cost-prohibitive and too heavy-weight for the relatively small company but decided to implement the new Continuous Deployment-as-a-Service because of its scalability. Upwave has since enabled continuous deployment and increased to over 100 deployments per week with a mean lead time of less than 20 minutes.

“The main benefit is that we have converged on a simpler model of continuous integration/continuous deployment, enabling us to do more. It’s easier, it’s simpler, and we have more functionality,” said Christopher Baldwin, chief architect, Upwave. “Simply put, it raises the bar for quality across our engineering organization as a whole. Isn’t that part of the software development dream?”

  • Indoor Robotics Raises $15 Million in Series A to Revolutionize Building Monitoring and Security Practices

Tel Aviv, ISRAEL, June 15, 2022 – Indoor Robotics, an indoor drone technology company that recently launched Tando™ drone, announced the closing of a $15 million in series A funding. The round of funding was led by Pitango and included Target Global, European Innovation Council Fund, and Spider Capital. This round enables Indoor Robotics to boost product development and enable intelligent indoor security worldwide.

Developing an autonomous indoor security robot has challenged robotics designers for years. While some ground-based robots are commercially available, ordinary items like a chair or a step can prevent them from fully securing an area. Indoor Robotics’ Tando™ uses multiple sensors and proprietary algorithms to accurately map and navigate in any indoor space, allowing it to autonomously navigate above or around any items in its path, enabling it to secure and monitor large areas.

“We reimagined what a drone was capable of and combined human-like capabilities with AI tools to enable next-generation security and monitoring,” said Doron Ben David, co-founder, and CEO of Indoor Robotics. “Tando has already been deployed by the world’s leading enterprises and security monitoring companies and is making a tangible impact on safety and security.”

Tando™ docks on the ceiling and functions as a security camera when not in flight. In addition to office buildings, it is currently being used to secure and monitor warehouses, data centers, malls, and retail establishments by well-known enterprises.

These funds will enable Indoor Robotics to move into full production and develop its go-to-market strategy. “We seized the opportunity to increase our investment in Indoor Robotics following the successful launch of Tando™ and the team’s demonstrated ability to surpass critical milestones,” said Rami Kalish, managing partner at Pitango. “Indoor Robotics’ proven capabilities have generated exciting demand from the market, which the investors are excited to facilitate.”

In addition to security functions, Tando™ drives significant safety and operational improvements. It is capable of collecting thermal imaging data and environmental data, as well as recording temperatures of rooms and identifying leaks. It also enables preventive maintenance, identifying areas in buildings that require care.

Doron Ben David and Amit Moran founded Indoor Robotics in 2018. Ben David had left his role as CTO of Israel Aerospace Industries’ Space Division when he began to collaborate with Moran, former Head of Robotics Innovation at Intel. They set their attention to drones, looking for areas where they could outperform human beings. They recognized that drones were ideal for security, an industry that suffers from 300% employee turnover, is vulnerable to fatigue and human error, and pays minimum wage to guards tasked with protecting valuable assets.

The drone fits in line with the company’s mission to boost the quality of life by enabling a seamless, comfortable indoor experience through task-oriented robots.

  • InfluxData Announces InfluxDB Edge Data Replication

New capabilities combine the power of cloud with the precision of the IoT edge to optimize time series data processing

San Francisco, CA, June 15, 2022 – InfluxData, creator of the leading time series platform InfluxDB, today announced Edge Data Replication, a new capability for centralized business insights in widely distributed environments. Edge Data Replication enables developers to collect, store and analyze high-precision time series data in InfluxDB at the edge, while replicating all or subsets of this data into InfluxDB Cloud. With Edge Data Replication, InfluxData delivers on both platform breadth and simplicity, scaling time series data processing in a new way that embraces the precision of the edge and the power of the cloud.

Modern applications are highly distributed across architectures and produce enormous volumes of time series data at the edge. Effectively managing the data in these applications and associated assets is a time-consuming, resource-intensive process, and developers often don’t have the capabilities or budgets to manage hundreds or thousands of data pipelines. InfluxDB Edge Data Replication changes the way developers and operators process time series data across distributed environments using a new edge database configuration that durably queues and mirrors select datasets to the cloud. The availability of Edge Data Replication marks a critical first step in InfluxData’s journey to solve key time series data integration and orchestration challenges for customers building distributed Industrial and Internet of Things (IoT) applications in energy, manufacturing, aerospace, and other high-tech industries.

“Data has gravity, and much of it is created far from clouds and data centers. This pulls applications out to the edge, where the data is born and produces its greatest value. Unfortunately, most databases don’t acknowledge or respect these emerging hybrid edge-cloud environments,” said Rick Spencer, Vice President of Products, InfluxData. “Edge Data Replication sets a new benchmark for time series platforms by combining the power of cloud with the precision of the edge – a best of both worlds solution that’s key to tomorrow’s distributed applications.”

According to Gartner®, “Enterprises are now employing machine learning models and computing at the edge in order to preprocess data rather than just migrating data to the cloud. Rather than one-way archiving, early adopters are doing multidirectional synchronization of data between edge, core data center and public cloud. Two-way synchronization allows enterprises to make use of the elastic nature of the compute infrastructure found among cloud service providers. Furthermore, with the upcoming expansion of edge computing, there will be a growing need for solutions that enable data workflow among edge, storage and multiple public cloud providers.”

Unlock Centralized Business Insights with Edge Data Replication

InfluxData’s Edge Data Replication creates a new and intuitive experience for developers building at the edge by allowing data from an InfluxDB instance to automatically replicate to InfluxDB Cloud with a simple configuration setting. By leveraging Edge Data Replication in tandem with the full power of the InfluxDB platform, including Flux, InfluxDB’s native data scripting language, users can: Integrate edge and cloud DataOps: Connect edge and cloud workloads to automatically mirror data from InfluxDB edge sources to InfluxDB Cloud instances in real-time.

    • Reduce cloud ingress and egress costs: Filter and aggregate data intelligently from InfluxDB at the edge before replicating it to InfluxDB Cloud. Downsampling data with Edge Data Replication delivers faster processing and reduced transfer costs.
    • Transform data before transfer: Dynamically add context to edge data that is needed for processing in the cloud. Cloud processing may require extra dimensions to query on or feature engineering.
    • Enforce edge/cloud consistency: Withstand planned and unplanned disruptions in network connectivity by queueing data at the edge until it can be safely transferred to the cloud.
    • Full data workflow at the edge: Full support for applications at the edge by enabling data preprocessing close to the data sources.

“Loft Orbital’s mission is to deliver space infrastructure as a service to give our customers rapid access to space,” said Caleb MacLachlan, Head of Software Integration, Loft Orbital. “Our network edge extends onto our spacecraft in low Earth orbit, requiring real-time access to highly distributed mission-critical data. With Edge Data Replication, it’s easier than ever for us to centralize our time series data while ensuring we don’t lose data from edge storage locations.”

“Every year there are 10 times more IoT edge devices deployed. Developers know that expectations for consistency, efficiency, and reliability are growing at a similar rate,” said Rick Spencer, InfluxData. “With this kind of scale, IoT developers need excellence in local operations, taking advantage of granular data for real-time insights and control, while also having a centralized view across all of the edge operations, sometimes at an enormous scale. The combination of Edge Data Replication, InfluxDB at the edge, and InfluxDB Cloud makes building such IoT applications not only possible, but also incredibly simple.”

Edge Data Replication is available immediately for InfluxDB users. For more information to get started, visit the InfluxData website.

  • Rockset Adds Snowflake Connector for Real-time Analytics Across Streaming and Historical Data

New integration gives developers highly efficient sub-second search, aggregations and joins across real-time and historical data.

San Mateo, CA, June 15, 2022 — Rockset, the Real-time Analytics Platform Built for the Cloud, today announced a new Snowflake connector which enables low-latency, high-concurrency analytics across streaming data from sources such as Apache Kafka, Amazon DynamoDB or MongoDB and historical data from Snowflake.

Data warehouses like Snowflake are used by analysts and data scientists to store and analyze historical business data, often at petabyte-scale, with data loaded in infrequent batches to save costs. In contrast, developers use real-time analytics platforms like Rockset to combine historical data from Snowflake with real-time event streams from sources like Apache Kafka, and serve user-facing applications and operational analytics use cases.

Rockset efficiently organizes data in a Converged Index™, which is optimized for real-time data ingestion and low-latency analytical queries. Rockset’s ingest rollups enable developers to pre-aggregate real-time data using SQL, without the need for complex real-time data pipelines. As a result, customers can reduce the cost of storing and querying real-time data by 10-100x. In addition, Rockset is built for the cloud, with independently scaling compute and storage to maximize resource efficiency without any operational overhead.

“The world is moving from static dashboards to real-time, interactive user-facing analytics such as customer recommendations, logistics tracking, and risk analytics, which demand efficient performance,” said Venkat Venkataramani, CEO and co-founder at Rockset. “Rockset’s integration with Snowflake enables users to search, aggregate and join historical data with real-time event streams, to power sub-second queries. Another common usage pattern is to build and train your machine learning model on historical data in Snowflake, and use Rockset to provide real-time features and signals during model serving.”

This release enables organizations using Snowflake to:

    • Search, aggregate and join data across historical data from Snowflake and real-time event streams or change data capture streams from Apache Kafka, Amazon Kinesis, Amazon DynamoDB, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server and more.

    • Use Rockset’s Converged Index for achieving better performance at lower costs, enabling low-latency, high-concurrency queries to serve user-facing analytics on historical data from Snowflake.

    • Use Rockset for real-time model serving as part of the machine learning pipeline with Snowflake.

Rockset has an extensive library of data connectors for schemaless ingestion from existing event streams, databases and lakes and stays in sync with the data source, enabling fast analytics within 1-2 seconds of new data being generated. Built by the team behind the online data infrastructure that powers Facebook Newsfeed and Search, Rockset is inspired by the same indexing systems that power real-time analytics at cloud scale.

  • Zebrium Launches Root Cause as a Service Enabling Popular Observability Tools to Automatically Find the Root Cause of Software Problems and Outages

RCaaS Slashes Mean-Time-to-Resolve by 90 percent and has a validated accuracy rate of over 95 percent

Santa Clara, CA – June 15, 2022 – Zebrium, the leader in the use of machine learning to automatically find the root cause of software problems, today announced that it has launched Zebrium Root Cause as a Service (RCaaS), a new solution that adds the capability for monitoring and observability tools such as Datadog, New Relic, Elastic, Dynatrace, Grafana, AppDynamics, ScienceLogic, and others to automatically find the root cause of software and infrastructure incidents.

When an incident with production software occurs, Zebrium RCaaS automatically finds the root cause and presents a summary of the problem directly on existing monitoring dashboards, alongside other charts showing metrics, traces and APM data. This allows Site Reliability Engineers (SREs), DevOps personnel and developers to reduce the Mean-Time-to-Resolve (MTTR) software or infrastructure problems by 90 percent.

Today, when technical teams encounter a new service outage or problem, they typically rely on observability tools to facilitate the troubleshooting process. Without Zebrium, this involves looking at metrics to determine “when” the problem started, drilling-down on traces or APM data to narrow down the source of the problem (the “where”), and finally combing through large volumes of logs from the application and infrastructure stack to determine the root cause (the “why”). This process can take many hours and requires extensive team resources while critical services remain impacted. Now with Zebrium RCaaS, the painstaking process of digging through logs is automated. The end-result is that RCaaS quickly uncovers the root cause indicators that technical teams would have eventually found by manually combing through logs.

RCaaS has a validated accuracy rate of finding the correct root cause in over 95% of incidents. “The Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) spends thousands of hours each month analyzing software logs to find the root cause of customer incidents,” said Koree Mires, Director, Global TAC Innovation, Automation and Disruption at Cisco Systems.  “We had been investigating ways to help automate this process for many years. When we came across Zebrium, we were immediately impressed. In order to validate its effectiveness, we tested RCaaS with four product lines and 192 actual customer incidents. We were astonished to find that RCaaS correctly found the root cause automatically over 95 percent of the time. We are now leveraging the technology to speed-up customer incident resolution and will continue rolling it out to more product lines throughout the year.”

Zebrium RCaaS is designed to make the details of root cause available in the same tools and workflows that SREs, Devops engineers and developers are already using. RCaaS has complete “out-of-the-box” integrations with popular observability and monitoring tools, including Datadog, New Relic, Elastic, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, Grafana, ScienceLogic and others. It also natively integrates with incident management and response platforms including PagerDuty, Opsgenie, Victorops, Slack, Teams and email systems. Additional 3rd party tools can also easily be integrated through a set of open-APIs.

“The cost of downtime keeps rising, and throwing engineers at the problem is not a scalable solution,” said Ajay Singh, CEO, Zebrium. “Since speed and accuracy are essential when software teams need to resolve application incidents, the only way forward is an automated approach to Root Cause Analysis (RCA). Zebrium RCaaS is a proven way to do this. Since our platform does not require any manual training or rules, customers can get started in just a few minutes, and leverage RCaaS almost any kind of observability tool already in place.”

Zebrium RCaaS is now available for purchase directly from Zebrium or in the Datadog and AWS marketplaces. For more information or to sign-up for a free trial, visit https://www.zebrium.com.

    Supporting quotes from Zebrium partners:

Alex Vetras, Senior Product Manager at Datadog.

“We are thrilled to have Zebrium as a Marketplace partner. Zebrium’s native Datadog app helps organizations identify the root cause behind outages by analyzing ingested logs to detect anomalies. Together with Datadog’s Watchdog capabilities, DevOps and SRE teams can now be notified of what went wrong and why, automatically.”

Peter Pezaris, SVP, Strategy and User Experience at New Relic:

“Application issues are frequently discovered in production and require all hands on deck to triage and resolve the problem. When an outage occurs, engineers also need to be able to get to the root cause of why, when, and where the service failed in order to prevent future incidents. With the Zebrium quickstart for New Relic, we’re providing our customers with a valuable tool that helps them avoid manually searching for root cause indicators in logs, and surfaces the root cause right in their New Relic dashboard. This helps engineers reduce their MTTR and find the root cause of software incidents faster.”

Erik Rudin, Vice President of Technical Alliances and Ecosystems at ScienceLogic:

“The Zebrium integration for ScienceLogic complements our AIOps and monitoring platform by automatically finding the root cause of incidents that would otherwise require manual log analysis.”

New Project CDEvents Hosted by CD Foundation

CDF recently announced it is hosting the CDEvents project, a vendor-neutral specification for defining the format of event data to provide interoperability across services, platforms and systems. Today’s CI/CD systems do not talk to each other in a standardized way. Defining a standard set of specifications is critical in solving the interoperability issues across the continuous delivery (CD) ecosystem. Having a common format for events in the CD space will enable an ecosystem of tools to collect, store, visualize and analyze events across CD platforms. This will cover use cases like measuring DevOps metrics and performance and visualizing end-to-end workflows, from the initial development all the way to operations and remediation flows. The current release of the CDEvents specification is available here: https://github.com/cdevents

    CD Foundation Welcoming New Members

Cloudsmith, Spacelift, Stackhawk and Tenable are joining the CD Foundation as new members. They join premier members AWS, Armory, CloudBees, Fujitsu, Google Cloud, Huawei, JFrog, Netflix, and Red Hat, as well as the broader open source CI/CD community, in helping to strengthen the growth and evolution of continuous delivery models.

Cloudsmith – Cloudsmith is a cloud-native, global, universal artifact management platform for engineers looking to set up a secure artifact repository in 60 seconds. Cloudsmith is a Belfast-headquartered startup that has raised $15 million in Series A funding. This is the largest ever Series A funding round in Northern Ireland.

“We are delighted to join the CD Foundation. How companies deliver software securely and quickly is key to their success, and we believe joining will provide even more value to our customers by connecting us to the broader community of continuous delivery companies and developers around the world,” said Lee Skillen, Co-Founder & CTO, Cloudsmith. “The future of cloud-native software delivery, artifact management and the whole supply chain is critical to industries everywhere, so we are excited to contribute our knowledge of continuous packaging to it.”

Spacelift – Spacelift focuses on collaborative infrastructure for modern software teams to manage cloud, infrastructure, or services. Its platform uses Terraform, CloudFormation, Pulumi, and Kubernetes offering features such as runtime configuration, version management, and state management. They are backed by Insight Partners, Blossom Capital, Hoxton Ventures and Inovo Venture Partners.

“We are excited to join the CD Foundation. Spacelift provides a collaboration and automation layer for infrastructure as a code, and we focus on openness, flexibility, and customization. We believe this fits well with the CD Foundation, and by contributing to the direction of open-source CI/CD development through the CD Foundation, our customers will benefit,” said Sean O’Dell, Head of Developer Relations at Spacelift. “By inviting infrastructure, security, compliance, and platform teams to collaborate on and approve workflows and policies, you can improve your infrastructure delivery platform.”

StackHawk – StackHawk helps developers find and fix application security bugs as part of software delivery. StackHawk makes security part of the developer workflow by running automated security testing in CI/CD and notifying developers immediately about new security issues as they emerge. StackHawk recently announced it has raised $20.7 million as part of a series B funding round.

“With the rapid pace of software development, security teams are finding it more difficult to test for vulnerabilities on an ongoing basis. At StackHawk, we are placing the ability to resolve vulnerabilities in the hands of the developer, and we see the CD Foundation as a key partner to helping us expand our reach and more broadly address this issue of shifting security left in the development cycle,” said Joni Klippert, co-founder and CEO at StackHawk. “We see the CD Foundation’s ability to guide changes in software development as a strength that will help drive the reduction in security vulnerabilities that make it to deployment.”

Tenable – Tenable is a cybersecurity company known as the creator of the vulnerability scanning software Nessus. Approximately 40,000 organizations around the globe rely on Tenable to understand and reduce cyber risk. Tenable customers include approximately 60 percent of the Fortune 500, approximately 40 percent of the Global 2000, and large government agencies.

“As security is a critical component of open source software development and delivery, Tenable will provide expertise and guidance to the CD Foundation,” said Glen Pendley, chief technology officer, Tenable. “The CD Foundation is uniquely positioned to help steer the course of security-focused development in the continuous delivery space. Tenable looks forward to collaborating with this community to enable end users to influence better solutions that drive value for our customers.”

    New General Manager Lead

CI/CD open source community leader Fatih Degirmenci has joined the CDF as its new General Manager. Fatih is not new to the CD Foundation. He participated in the very first public meeting during the Open Source Leadership Summit in California in March 2019 when the CD Foundation was announced. Since then, he’s been heavily involved in the community including special interest groups (SIG) like the Interoperability SIG and Software Supply Chain SIG. He also served on the Technical Oversight Committee (TOC) as an end-user representative.

Fatih will work closely with the eight CDF-hosted projects CDEvents, Jenkins, Jenkins X, Ortelius, Shipwright, Screwdriver, Spinnaker, and Tekton, and help members and the wider Continuous Delivery CI/CD community improve their software development security and speed when creating cloud-native, legacy infrastructure, mobile, IoT, and bare-metal applications.
