  • Redis Delivers the Fastest Multi-Model Database on Intel® Optane™ DC Persistent Memory

Redis Enterprise Provides Developer Flexibility to Process Massive Data Sets Quickly and Affordably

Mountain View, Calif., January 10, 2019—Redis, the home of Redis and provider of Redis Enterprise, announced today that Redis Enterprise is now available for Intel® Optane™ DC persistent memory across multiple cloud services or as downloadable software for supported hardware from companies participating in Intel’s hardware beta program.

Redis Enterprise gives developers the flexibility to choose between the two modes of operation offered by Intel Optane DC persistent memory. Using Memory Mode, Redis Enterprise-powered applications can achieve comparable performance to DRAM with significant cost benefits. Developers can achieve even greater cost savings using AppDirect mode with Redis Enterprise, while still delivering significantly faster performance compared to NVMe.

The combination of Redis Enterprise and Intel Optane DC persistent memory enables customers to scale to multi-terabytes of data at a much more attractive price point than alternate solutions. Redis Enterprise’s multi-model capabilities which encompass core data-structures (including the new Redis Streams) and modules (ReJSON, RedisGraph, and RediSearch) all perform at a sub-millisecond response time for any operation with persistent memory. Additionally, Redis Enterprise can be deployed in an active-active (CRDT-based) manner across geo-regions, while keeping a similar cost structure of much slower databases.

“We’ve worked closely with Intel’s engineering teams to address real-world challenges we see across more than 750,000 Redis Enterprise databases under our management,” said Yiftach Shoolman, co-founder and CTO at Redis. “Traditionally, Redis users have split their dataset across multiple databases to avoid the relatively high deployment cost associated with high memory (DRAM) capacity servers. Redis Enterprise in combination with Intel Optane DC persistent memory allows developers to simplify their database deployment by keeping the entire dataset in a single multi-model database—Redis—and keep the cost structure similar to disk-based databases, while enjoying sub-millisecond response time at any scale for simple and complex use cases.”

“Intel and Redis have collaborated in the development of next-generation memory technologies beginning with NVMe to persistent memory today,” said Alper Ilkbahar, Vice President and General Manager, Datacenter Memory and Storage Solutions at Intel. “With their deep technical knowledge of customers’ high-performance data tier architecture, Redis has optimized Redis Enterprise to leverage the benefits of Intel Optane DC persistent memory to meet the needs of our customers.”

Redisis the home of Redis, the world’s most popular in-memory database, and commercial provider of Redis Enterprise that delivers superior performance, matchless reliability and unparalleled flexibility for personalization, machine learning, IoT, search, ecommerce, social and metering solutions worldwide.

Redis, ranked as a leader in top analyst reports on NoSQL, in-memory databases, operational databases, and database-as-a-service, is trusted by seven Fortune 10 companies, three of the four credit card issuers, three of the top five communication companies, three of the top five healthcare companies, six of the top eight technology companies, and four of the top seven retailers.

Redis has been voted the most loved database, rated the most popular database container, and #1 cloud database.

  • Redis Introduces RedisGraph and Streams to Support a Zero Latency Future

Redis Enterprise Strengthens its Position as the Leading Database for the Instant Economy

Redis, the home of Redis and provider of Redis Enterprise, today announced at Redis Day London the latest release of Redis Enterprise with two key functionalities: RedisGraph and Streams. RedisGraph is a new module designed to solve complicated, practical graph problems in real-time. Streams is a new data structure that enables ingestion and analysis of huge volumes of unstructured data that are generated at extremely fast rates. Both of these functionalities support faster decision-making by businesses and are poised to accelerate the arrival of zero latency apps and services for their customers.

“There are numerous emerging environments that require zero latency to deliver on their promise—autonomous vehicles, facial recognition, smart homes, and many more,” said Manish Gupta, CMO at Redisf. “However a key piece holding these innovations back from mass consumer adoption is the speed at which the databases can process data. RedisGraph and Streams will help companies make their apps, devices, and systems deliver the instantaneous experiences consumers expect.”

Introducing the World’s Fastest Graph Database: RedisGraph

Built on GraphBLAS, an open-source library that employs linear algebra including matrix multiplication, RedisGraph can complete calculations up to 600 times faster than any alternate graph solution according to benchmark results.

RedisGraph’s key capabilities and use cases include:

    • The first application of GraphBLAS to focus on real-world problem-solving such as tracing contaminations or analyzing traffic flow, by performing calculations at an unprecedented speed.
    • Designed to make performing critical graph-based calculations easy and efficient, and to empower enterprises to make decisions to solve problems quickly.
    • Minimizes the need for specialized databases to address different use cases.
    • Eliminates the need for manual, step-by-step calculations and permits users to store values, search millions of graph nodes and edges, and perform multiple calculations simultaneously.
    • Sample use cases include tracing the source of contamination in a complex supply chain, tracking user behaviors to boost efficiency of recommendation engines or analyzing traffic flow on multiple roadways at once.

“RedisGraph is an extremely performant graph database,” said Daniel Howard, senior researcher at Bloor. “Thanks to the matrix representation it uses and the linear algebra algorithms it implements, it is able to create over one million nodes in under half a second, and form three million relationships in the same time frame. Early benchmarks performed by Redis suggest that their graph processing times are orders of magnitude faster than their competitors.”

“We’re looking forward to building upon our existing implementation of Redis Enterprise. We anticipate that RedisGraph will open up new possibilities in rapid detection, advanced warning, and exploration of malware data,” says Mark Patton, senior vice president of engineering at Malwarebytes. “We believe that RedisGraph will accelerate real-time insights into threat mitigation and overall security posture.”

“We’ve been using Redis for over a decade and it has been great to see the success our teams are achieving with it,” said Emre Sokullu, CEO and founder at Grou.PS. “With the simplicity and scale that RedisGraph is able to deliver with its multi-tenant architecture and the compactness of the data storage, we’ve been able to reduce our infrastructure footprint quite considerably. With support for the Cypher Query Language, the switch from our existing graph implementation in favor of RedisGraph was straightforward. Now, with the expected increase of the speed of our queries, we can get the insights we rely on faster than ever.”

A New Data Structure Supporting Fast Processing and Analysis: Streams

Streams is a new data structure that was introduced with open source Redis 5.0 and is now available in the latest version of Redis Enterprise. With the power of Streams, simple monitoring tools can be transformed to process and act upon data that is being generated in real time. For example, a baby monitor could go from streaming the live feed of a baby’s crib to analyzing the real-time status and health of the infant including sounding an alarm if the child’s breathing or heartbeat is irregular.

    Streams’ benefits and features include:

    • Processes data in real time that is being generated in huge volumes and at extremely fast rates.
    • Enables the creation of queues to share information among different applications and systems or to unify logs from different systems.
    • Sample use cases include real-time sentiment analysis of social media feeds, processing data from the environment and other surroundings to inform and guide the actions of autonomous vehicles, facial recognition technology, machine learning, evaluating real-time events to spot fraud or a cyber attack, and supporting better IoT and Smart Home devices.
